Character Biography
“Delta Red” is the code name for a secret military unit tasked with battling the Apophis Legion.
When it became clear that sending living operatives to battle the Forgotten King only resulted in filling the ranks of his undead army, a different tactic was needed. Agent Declan Van Helsing proposed the creation of a new kind of soldier – one that was already undead, and not capable of being controlled by the enemy. He extracted blood from one of the master vampires in the Van Helsing Tomb, and it was administered to volunteers from American Delta Forces. The blood has successfully given the soldiers vampiric abilities, including enhanced speed, strength, sensory perception, and the rapid healing of non-silver induced wounds. Most importantly, however, it has made them immune to the call of the Forgotten King, and keeps them from becoming part of his Apophis Legion. The drawbacks, sadly, are severe. The member of this new unit are now susceptible to sunlight burning their flesh on contact. They are also only able to take nourishment from blood, and as such, cannot be allowed unsupervised contact with their families. The benefit, is that, if kept fed and away from sunlight, the vampiric soldier is essentially unkillable and can regenerate from any battle damage short of beheading and a stake through the heart. The only side-effect comes from silver, which wounds will not heal from until the silver is removed.
With only the blood injection and without the bite of a master vampire, the process of vampirization can be reversed, reverting the members of Delta Red back to their original living, breathing selves, as long as their tour does not exceed 13 full moons. The other benefit is that Agent Van Helsing chose the blood of a Master Vampire who is still sealed away inside the Van Helsing Tomb, so that even if Dracula wished to, he could not exercise control over the members of Delta Red.
