Character Biography
As the leading technology expert during the run of the original Eagle Force, Zapper made quite a name for himself in the world of military technology and communications equipment. With Eagle Force being so mobile, and in some cases somewhat under-resourced in their first iteration, Zapper had to improvise, and his skills at making advanced technology out of common technical components grew to mythical status throughout the special forces community.
Once Eagle Force disbanded, Zapper felt a little lost, somewhat unsure how to continue to develop his technical skills, but he was able to get in on the 1980’s and 1990’s technical boon in the very early stages and ride that wave.
Leveraging his desire and his unique ability to find commonalities with disparate technology, he grew to prominence among the world of the corporate technical elite, soon getting on the radar with the United States Department of Defense and becoming a liaison and consultant for them in different ways to use technology to support and grow the United States military.
While operating in this capacity, he also made many wide investments, growing his portfolio with smart spending on emerging tech giants, enabling him to work part time while using the rest of his free time to create and develop his own unique technical tools and weaponry. Many of his next generation enhancements were far too expensive for the militaries of the world to use in a widespread way, but he kept a log of these creations and maintained an extensive warehouse of prototypes that he often dreamed about finding uses for. A strange combination of an obsessive hermit and a multi-millionaire tech executive, Zapper built a veritable arsenal of next generation tools and tech for enhancing military operations around the globe.
He just had nobody willing to buy it or invest in mass production.
In true fact, Zapper was growing somewhat lonely and isolated in this new life. He spent plenty of time on corporate jets, meeting with Defense Department leaders and tech executives, but at the end of each of these meetings he always flew back to his Silicon Valley home where he had moved to from Toronto several years back. He felt like he had to live in that area to stay fresh, and without his family or friends nearby, he grew more and more quiet, introspective, and alone. Completely retreating from the public eye, he moved to a remote cabin in the woods to continue his inventions and to let this strange new digital age pass him by.
Throughout his years he stayed in touch with many of his Eagle Force comrades, especially John Eagle, and tried to maintain some kind of link to his military past through his former peers, though in real life he was having a difficult time finding a reason to keep going. In truth, it was his technical creations that kept him invested and kept him interested in waking up every day and continuing to innovate.
Zapper had just acclimated himself to his new life of solitude when the sudden news of R.I.O.T.’s re-emergence exploded across all news channels in dramatic fashion. While part of him was devastated with the return of the nefarious terrorist organization, another part of him was eager to find a way back into the action-packed world of the modern military.
Immediately calling Captain Eagle, Zapper was ecstatic to hear that Eagle had put him on a shortlist of people to call for consultative assistance in rebuilding the Eagle Force team. Zapper told him in no uncertain terms that he had no intention of coming on as a consultant, he wanted to be a full fledged member of the team.
Captain Eagle welcomed him aboard.
With Eagle Force being a much smaller organization and more strongly resources to battle the threat of R.I.O.T., they have begun dipping into Zapper’s wealth of prototype advanced weaponry and instruments and integrating some of this next generation equipment into their everyday field gear. Zapper is a critical piece of this modern Eagle Force team and whether on the battlefield or in the R & D department, he helps in the battle against R.I.O.T. in countless different ways.
While there are many reasons to bemoan R.I.O.T.’s return, he credits the resurgence of Eagle Force with saving his life and his sanity.
