Character Biography
Samantha Northender is Dax's wife. She was born and grew up in the Dinosaur infested jungles of "Inner Earth," the prehistoric world beneath the planet's crust. When she was 19, she ventured through the forbidden tunnels of the ancient ones, emerging in the lost city beneath the Ice of Antarctica. It was there that a man named Dax had fallen through the ice from above. He was strong and beautiful, and when he was attacked by the city's ancient centurion robots, she immediately ran to his aid.
It was love at first sight, and when she asked him where this place called "Manhattan" was that he had come from, he told her it was far to the North. The statement hit her like a ton of bricks, and she bade him follow her to her tribe's wiseman. Long had the people of her Jungle held that one day a man who would be known as the "Northender," would come and awaken their sleeping gods at last.
The beings she was referring to were an ancient race of advanced peoples from a more primordial time. They had long since gone into suspended animation on the inner continent of "Agartha," a land mass that orbited the core of the Earth.
The two had amazing adventures traveling to the lost continent, including a journey in the makeshift hot-air balloon Dax had assembled from available materials in the tribe. Had it not been for the pterodactyls, it might have been the most romantic moment of her life.
In the end, they found the blue-skinned Immortals, and Dax managed to awaken them, bringing a hope for peace and unity amongst all the peoples of Inner Earth. Dax and Samantha were married, and eventually, she returned with him to the surface, and New York. He changed his last name to Northender, and she took it as her married name.
Sam is very well educated for having been raised in the jungle. She had been tutored in math and philosophy by the scholars of her tribe from a very young age, but the outside world was a major culture shock for her...adapting to 1930's New York took some effort. Some nights she would disappear, and Dax would find her perched atop the Brooklyn Bridge, having shredded her clothes down to a semblance of the animal skin bikini he first found her in. Eventually, however, she grew fond of American life...falling in love with the food, the pageantry, and especially radio dramas. Still, the girl inside her longs for the jungle, and as cosmopolitan as she becomes, her moral compass for right and wrong will never waiver. The tales of her and Dax's adventures in Inner Earth garnered her the name "Jurassic Sam," by their New York friends.
As one of the Thassia people, she is three times as strong as a normal woman. She is also incredibly agile and adept at grappling combat, having wrestled with her fair share of Dinosaurs. Whenever she and her husband find themselves on another adventure requiring her climbing and scouting skills, she tends to wear as little as possible to regain her full jungle prowess, usually preferring a more modern equivalent to her skimpy jungle duds.
