Character Biography

In the world of 1930's magicians, few were as popular as the Amazing Domino. Originally the daughter of Lord Almesbury of Cardiff, Sara was well educated at the finest schools in England. But for all his influence, her father could never get her to give up on her one true love...magic!

By the time she was 17, she was still unspoken for, with considerable pressure from her father to marry. When her aunt Isabelle suggested Sara come summer with her as she traveled abroad, Sara jumped at the chance. Doubtlessly, her father assumed his sister would be trying to play match maker. He could not have been more wrong. Isabelle was a free-spirited woman who knew only too well how overbearing her brother could be. When the two of them hit the road, Isabelle informed Sara that she had the summer to figure out what SHE wanted out of life.

Sara could hardly be dragged away from the theaters, watching every magician in whatever town they stopped-in multiple times, trying to figure out how they did their tricks. The following afternoon, she would tell her aunt all about it while they played Dominoes.

One night, The Great John Maskulyne picked her out of the audience to help him with a trick on stage. When it was over, he whispered that she should come and see him after the show. She came by his dressing room, and he said that he had seen her in the audience the last few nights. She responded that she was learning magic, and he asked to see what she could do. Having practiced several tricks repeatedly, she performed a few for him. Maskulyne let her know that her form was rough and untrained, but that she obviously had showmanship. He offered for her to join him as his assistant, and in return, he would spend their off hours teaching her.

For several years, Sara performed with him, getting herself completely cut-out of her father's estate. She didn't care. They were the happiest years of her life, and if ever there was a time when she needed more money than what John was paying her, a letter to her aunt was all it took.

Then one day, when she was 22, Sara received a letter saying that her aunt had died. She returned home to find out that Isabelle had left her an iron chest along with a key and a private letter. In the letter, Isabelle explained that life for her was never about status or money, but rather relishing in every thrill that could make her feel alive.

The key unlocked the chest. The chest was full of money...at least a million British pounds. Wrought with emotion over the death of her aunt, and the secret fortune she'd left behind, Sara tracked down Isabelle's old traveling companion, Jane. She told Jane that she couldn't bring herself to spend a penny of her aunt's money until she knew how it had been acquired. Jane confided in her that her aunt had not led a life of crime, but rather espionage. Isabelle had been a spy for the Crown for over 30 years, and that had been very profitable. She rarely spent the money because she already had the family's wealth. Instead, she just kept it in case she ever needed to pay a ransom or rescue someone who worked with her. In the end, she found she could use it to do both...with Sara.

Sara was beside herself with what to do with the money, but in the end knew that there was only one thing that would live up to her aunt's expectations. She began her own magic show.

Taking Jane's words to heart, she freed herself from her family's name and became "The Amazing Domino," paying tribute to the happiest memories she had with her aunt. The fact that she was beautiful helped to pack the seats initially, but her showmanship was second to none. She became the toast of London, and toured on through Europe and even the United States.

But it was in Austria that she came face to face with "Faustus the Great." Faustus was a mysterious magician from Budapest, and he claimed that his powers were real. Domino, having little patience for magicians who claimed such things, performed one of his own tricks in front of him at a dinner party. Enraged, he swore that he would be the end of her. The two became the bitterest of rivals from that day forward.

When she returned to London in 1937, she was approached by a member of the British Intelligence. He told her that the Germans were re-arming, and that it may lead to another war. Her majesty needed a trustworthy agent who could travel abroad freely, meet with contacts and gather intelligence. She told him that her aunt had been a spy for them before and that it had gotten her killed. He responded by saying that Isabelle was one of the best, and that she had told them to keep an eye on Sara as a possible recruit. Sara thought long and hard about the offer, but in the end, for love of her aunt, she agreed.

The Amazing Domino went on tour again, but this time, the stakes were high. At first, she was just delivering and receiving messages...but soon, she was breaking and entering, smuggling people out of the country, and eventually, performing assassinations. Her skills as a magician were of the utmost use to her. Through slight of hand, she was able to switch out a role of sensitive micro-film with a complete fake. Her pick-pocketing skills allowed her to lift secretive documents off of more than one Nazi sympathizer without them realizing. She was a master of disguise, allowing her to move through a city incognito, and if she was being pursued, her skill as a quick-change artist would help to ditch her enemies. Her physical condition was magnificent as well as her flexibility for climbing in and out of illusions, and whenever she was caught, her abilities as an escape artist would be invaluable. Her most dangerous missions would be the ones when Faustus was in the same town. Of all her adversaries, HE was the one who knew what she was capable of.

When Dax Northender assembled the Midnight Men, he knew that he would need an intelligence officer...someone who already had a network in Europe, and knew the terrain. Churchill's intelligence service gave Northender a number of candidates to choose from, but he requested Domino. Since she was one of their best, Britain was resistant to the request. But, with the threat of the Pazerverks weapons seeing deployment on the shores of England, they finally conceded. Secretly, Dax also knew that if anyone could get him face to face with NOIR, the elusive mastermind of the French underworld, it would be Domino.

The Amazing Domino became the first member of the team to enter an area. She would survey the terrain, and then set up a location for the Midnight Men to drop in. If someone ever needed a way to sneak in or out of an area, it would be as one of her assistants or stage hands. Though Dax planned never to use her in direct combat, she is more than capable of handling her own. In her few years of espionage, she has developed a number of concealed weapons that she always has on her while in the field, everything from her sword-cane and bullet-wand down to the poison ring on her finger for subtle kills or sedations.

The Amazing Domino is a charismatic performer, and loved by all who meet her. She has a quick wit and a sassy personality, but she's well spoken, and extremely worldly...the type of girl it's easy to fall in love with. Needless to say, most of the team have.
