Character Biography

In what is probably a case of universal irony, Renton Hawkins grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington...a city known for its fishing. Hawkins’ father was employed in a local cannery and taught his sons how to fish in fresh and saltwater at an early age. When Renton turned 13, two important life altering decisions would change everything for him. First, he dropped out of school because he started to feel an emotional attachment to his best friend, Jacob. Since homosexuality was frowned upon in society at that time, Renton dropped out of school, lied about his age (to his benefit, he hit puberty very early), and decided to join the military. This lines up with him joining the Air Service of the American Expeditionary Forces in time for the Battle of Meusse-Argonne. A quick study, Hawkins took to flying like a duck to water. He was a natural, and impressed even the American Ace, Eddie Rickenbacker.

After the War, Hawkins moved to Los Angeles, where he made friends with eccentric millionaire, Howard Hughes. The two would talk about flying, about their individual sexual conquests (Hawkins was bisexual), and about Hughes’ newest obsession; filmmaking. It was their friendship that led to Hughes making Hell’s Angels, and in fact, you can see Hawkins in the film’s climax. The two made two more films together before Hawkins started lending himself out as a stunt pilot to MGM, which created a huge rift between them. Their friendship never recovered and it is rumored that Hughes fed the Hollywood press many stories about Hawkins liaisons with some of Hollywood’s leading men. Hawkins left the film industry before any of these rumors could harm him, bought a seaplane (nicknamed “The Brunette Bombshell” for his friend, Jane Russell), and found himself in the Orient, hustling as a sort of pirate of the skyways. It was in Japan, in the backdrop of the Second Sino-Japanese War, that he met and mentored a young boy named Hideki Washi, who would become the Eagle Force member, Sparrow. The two went on a few adventures together when suddenly the Empire of Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Hawkins went back to the States and reenlisted, this time with the Army Air Force.

After flying a few missions (one of which saw him shot down over the Pacific Ocean only to be rescued by, coincidentally, Hideki), Hawkins was recruited by Sgt. Eagle for his new team of enlisted men. Hawkins agreed on one condition; that no matter what the sentiments toward the Imperial Forces of Japan, Hideki would be on the team as well. Eagle had no qualms about letting the boy join.

Hawkins was shot down and killed during the opening of the Korean War in 1950. He left his entire estate, including The Brunette Bombshell, to Hideki.
